On Saturday, July 4, 2015 at approximately 2210 hours Ptl. Mazellan stopped a Mini Cooper on Rt. 22 and Haver Place for a brake light out. During the course of the motor vehicle stop the officer observed the occupants of the vehicle as being very nervous. Sgt. Ferreiro arrived on the scene and the occupants of the vehicle were removed. As the passenger, Santiago Maldonado, 21, of Elizabeth was exiting the vehicle, marijuana shake was observed on his clothing. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded an amount of marijuana under 50 grams. Maldonado was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and released with a court date.
