Drug & Handgun Arrest
On Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at approximately 0108 hours, Ptl. Mazellan stopped a Honda Civic in the parking lot of 422 Rt. 22 for failing to maintain lane it's lane and having a windshield obstruction. During the course of the investigation, Ptl. Mazellan observed the driver, identified as Matthew M. Gray, 34, of Willard, Maryland showed signs of drug use both on his person and in his vehicle. Sgt. Heycock and K9 Ronin arrived on scene as back up and performed an exterior sniff of the vehicle. K9 Ronin alerted to the odor of narcotics in the vehicle and a search was conducted. During the search Ptl. Mazellan located several capsules containing suspected heroin, numerous hypodermic syringes and marijuana. Inside the vehicle's spare tire compartment, hidden behind the tire, Ptl. Mazellan located a handgun packaged along with ammunition. Gray was subsequently arrested and charged with the following.
Possession of a Firearm without a lawful Purpose 2C:39-5B(2), Possession of CDS (Heroin) 2C:35-10a(1), Possession of CDS (Suboxone) 2C:35-10a(1), Certain Persons not Allowed to Possess Firearms 2C:39-7(C), Possession of under 50 Grams of Marijuana 2C:35-10a(4), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia 2C:36-2, Possession of Hypodermic Syringe 2C:36-6, Possession of CDS in a Motor Vehicle 39:4-49.1, Failure to Maintain Lane 39:4-88, Obstructed Windshield 39:3-74. Gray was transferred to the Hunterdon County Jail due to defaulting on his $25,000 full cash bail.
