Stolen vehicle

On September 24, 2018 at approximately 2215 hours, Clifton Police advised this department that a vehicle stolen from their jurisdiction was possibly in the parking lot of Wells Fargo Bank on Rt. 22 West. Ptl. Phares, Pfc. Medvetz, Cpl. Carr and Sgt. Rindock responded to the above location. Ptl. Phares located the stolen vehicle in the Walgreens parking lot. The officers then checked the security footage from the Walgreens and observed a male exit the vehicle, enter the store and go into the bathroom.

The Cpl. Carr and Ptl. Phares located the suspect later, identified as Omer Bursal of Lodi, NJ, in a bathroom stall. The officers called out the suspect to exit the stall but he refused to comply. Officers entered the stall and attempted to take Bursal into custody, at which point he began to resist arrest and the officers were finally able to take Bursal into custody. Officers searched the stolen vehicle for evidence and located under fifty grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and open containers of alcoholic beverages. Bursal was transported to police headquarters and charged with; receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, possession of under fifty grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of open alcoholic containers in a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle in possession of CDS. Bursal was lodged at the Somerset County Jail to await a bail hearing.
