On Sunday, August 18, 2019 at approximately 0146 hours, Sfc. Carlos Ferreiro stopped a vehicle for failure to maintain lane. The vehicle was operated by Giovanni Ortez (43) of West New York, NJ. During the motor vehicle investigation, the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Ortez. The officer had Ortez preform Standardized Field Sobriety Test, which he failed. Ortez was then placed under arrest for DWI. Ortez was charged with failure to maintain lane and DWI. Ortez was released to a sober adult pending a future court appearance. The filing of criminal charges is merely one step in the process. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
