Officers receive Life Saving Award

On February 4th 2013, Officers Sgt. William Dufosse, Ptl. Greg Wester Ptl. Robert Quinlan were recognized at the Readington Township Committee meeting. The officers received the Police Department's Life Saving Award which was presented by Police Commissioner Frank Gatti along with Douglas Hall, the man the officers saved.

On the morning of Sunday, November 25, 2012, the officers were dispatched to the Hall residence for a male who was reported as being in cardiac arrest. Sgt. Dufosse, Ptl. Wester, and Ptl. Quinlan arrived on scene several minutes later and found Hall in a bedroom gasping for breath. Sgt. Dufosse and Ptl. Quinlan administered oxygen and began rescue breathing to assist Hall. After a short time, Hall's breathing stopped and the officers' were unable to detect a pulse. The officers began CPR, with Ptl. Quinlan continuing the rescue breaths as Sgt. Dufosse started chest compressions. Ptl. Wester set up the department's defibrillator. Ptl. Wester shocked Hall numerous times at which point the Paramedics from Hunterdon Medical Center arrived on scene and took over primary care. At the point where primary care was turned over to the paramedics, Hall's pulse had returned and he was breathing on his own.

As Douglas Hall stated at the award ceremony, If it were not for the quick response and actions of the police officers he would certainly not be alive today. The Readington Twp. Police Department is proud of and congratulate, Sgt. Dufosse, Ptl. Wester, and Ptl. Quinlan.
