Woman Arrested for Making False 9-1-1 Calls, Assaulting Officer

On Tuesday, April 16th, at about 11:30 pm, Readington Township police officers arrested Marilyn Callahan, 66 years old of Whitehouse Station, NJ, for committing several offences.

At about 10:00 pm Readington officers assisted the Flemington Borough Police attempt to locate a 47 year old male who was reported missing in Flemington. The Readington officers' investigation lead them to the home of Marilyn Callahan where the man was located, unharmed, at about 11:00 pm; the missing man was at Callahan's home of his own free will and Callahan told officers the missing man was her guest. The Readington officers advised the Flemington Police that the man reported missing was located and was safe and the police left Callahan's home.

Shortly after the officers left Callahan's home she began calling 9-1-1 and yelling obscenities at the 9-1-1 dispatchers at Hunterdon County Communications. Callahan admitted to the 9-1-1 dispatchers that she did not have an emergency. Readington Police telephoned Callahan and she began yelling more obscenities and told the calling officer that she did not have an emergency. Callahan was advised by the officer that fraudulent use of the 9-1-1 system was a crime and if she continued to call 9-1-1 without having an emergency she would be arrested. Callahan did call 9-1-1 again after hanging up with the officer and called the 9-1-1 dispatcher who answered her call a profane name.

Lt. Scott Crater, Sfc. William duFosse', and Ptlm. Ray Mackiewicz responded to Callahan's home and placed her under arrest. During processing at Police HQ, Callahan assaulted Ptlm. Mackiewicz by punching him several times in the chest; she also attempted, unsuccessfully, to kick Lt. Crater and Sfc. duFosse'. Callahan refused to be fingerprinted or photographed and attempted to damage the fingerprinting equipment.

Callahan was charged with Causing False Public Alarms, Disorderly Conduct, Aggrevated Assault on a Police Officer, Harassment, and Obstructing the Administration of Law. Callahan was brought to the Hunterdon Medical Center for treatment before being taken to the Hunterdon County Jail in lieu of $5,000.00 bail.

The man reported missing was driven to his home by Ptlm. Robert Medvetz.
