Motorcyclist Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash

On Wednesday, April 24th at about 1:27 pm, Special Police Officer Robert Marelli, while on patrol, came upon a motor vehicle crash involving a Toyota Prius and a BMW motorcycle at the intersection of Route 22 and School Road.

Lt. Scott Crater arrived on scene and immediately began rendering first aid to Bruce Bartels, 71 years old, of Branchburg, NJ, who was lying in the Route 22 median; Bartels was the driver of the motorcycle and suffered a serious injury to his foot. Bartels was transported to Morristown Medical Center by the Whitehouse Rescue Squad.

The driver of the Toyota, Rhoda Ondov, 60 years old, of Whitehouse Station, NJ, said she was not injured but requested to be transported to Somerset Medical Center "to be checked out"; she was transported by a 2nd ambulance from the Whitehouse Rescue Squad.

Initial investigation revealed Bartels was traveling east in the left lane of Route 22 when Ondov attempted to cross over Route 22 East and struck Bartels. Bartels was ejected from his motorcycle and both he and the motorcycle traveled approximately 80 feet east from the point of impact. Ondov's Toyota came to rest in the cut-through lane of Route 22 East and School Road. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

The investigation is on-going and no tickets have been issued at this time.
