MISSING AUTISTIC BOY FOUND AFTER EXTENSIVE SEARCH

On Thursday, August 14th, 2014, after an extensive search, the Readington Township Police located a missing 6 year old autistic boy who walked away from his home.

The police were dispatched to a residence on Higginsville Road in Three Bridges for a missing 6 year old autistic boy who walked away from his home at about 11:50 am; the boy was wearing a swimsuit and was not wearing shoes. The Readington Township Police searched the rural area in four wheel drive vehicles, patrol cars, and on foot; they were assisted by the New Jersey State Police K-9 Unit as well as a New Jersey State Police Helicopter. Other agencies who assisted in the search included the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office, the Hunterdon County Sheriff's Office, and the Whitehouse Rescue Squad.

At about 1:05 pm Lt. Scott Crater of the Readington Township Police located the boy at a farm about nine-tenths of a mile from the boy's home. The boy was in a bathtub filled with stagnant water in an outdoor horse pen. The officer pulled the boy from the bathtub and after making sure the boy was okay, drove the boy home where he was reunited with his mother and father. The boy, who is mostly non-verbal, was treated at the scene for cuts and abrasions to his legs and feet but did not require additional medical care.
