Route 202 Pole Accident

On Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at approximately 1803 hours the Readington Township Police Department was dispatched to the area of Rt. 202 south and Railroad Ave for a car vs. pole accident. Upon arrival officers observed a 2007 BMW approximately 25 yards off the roadway, through the guard rail and into the woods, knocking down a utility pole. The accident brought power line wires down across lanes in both directions on the highway, closing it in both directions. The driver, an 18 year old Neshanic resident suffered a medical emergency and had to be extricated from the car by members of the Flemington-Raritan Rescue Squad and was subsequently transported to Hunterdon Medical Center for further evaluation. Traffic in both directions on Route 202 was shut down for approximately twenty minutes during the initial investigation until JCPL could remove the power wires. Afterwards, one lane on the southbound lane remained closed so that the vehicle could be removed from the woods and the utility pole fixed. No summonses were issued.
