Vehicle struck by train

On Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 1821 hours, officers responded to the intersection of Stanton Station Road and Lilac Drive for a report of a motor vehicle struck by a train. When officers arrived, they discovered that a 2016 VW GTI driven by Carl E. Ailara, from Frenchtown, NJ had become stuck on the tracks after the driver mistook the tracks for Lilac Drive while following his vehicles GPS unit. After becoming stuck, Mr. Ailara and a passenger exited the car uninjured. A Norfolk Southern train then passed through the intersection and struck the VW causing major damage to the VW. Two railroad employees on the train were not injured.
