All Terrain Vehicle's
The Readington Township Police Department has received several complaints about all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) operating on Public Lands owned by the Township of Readington. These properties have been dedicated to farmland and passive recreational uses which include hiking and horseback riding. The use of motorized vehicles is strictly prohibited except for the express purpose of farming and township needs. It should be noted that the Power and Gas Company's prohibit the operation of the same vehicles on their respective properties.

Violation of the above may result in the operator(s) and passengers prosecution for criminal trespass under N.J.S.A. 2C:18-3, 2C:18-4 and 2C:18-5 and any other applicable laws, statutes, ordinances and/or amendments thereto and the imposition of fines and/or penalties permitted by state law under N.J.S.A. 2C:43-3, 2C:18-6 and any other applicable laws, statutes, ordinances and/or amendments thereto.
Operation of vehicles that cause the destruction of agricultural crops, fences, fields or other agricultural or recreational property are in violation of motor vehicle law 39:4-97a. The issuance of the said summons includes a fine, and points against your driving record with the possibility of an increase in insurance premiums.
Furthermore, these vehicles are subject to being towed and impounded. All expenses associated with this are the responsibility of the vehicle owner.
