DWI Arrest

On Thursday, December 4, 2019 at approximately 0052 hours, Readington Police officer Jack Mazellan was on patrol on Rt. 22 near Ridge Rd. Ptl Mazellan oberved a wrong way driver traveling Rt 22 East in the West bound lanes. Ptl Mazellan was able to get the vehicle stopped at the intersection of Rt 22 and County Line Rd. The female driver was identified as Ongelique Shariff (39) of Bridgewater NJ. Ptl Mazellan detected the odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle and had Shariff exit the vehicle for testing purposes. Shariff failed several Field Sobriety tests and was arrested for DWI. Shariff was transported to headquarters where she was processed and issued motor vehicle summonses for Driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit breath samples, reckless driving, traveling the wrong way on a one way street, speeding, failure to possess registration or insurance cards, and making improper turns. Shariff was released from police custody to a sober adult. The filing of criminal charges is merely one step in the process. A defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
